What the College Stands for

St. Joseph’s College for Women (Autonomous), founded by the Sisters of St. Joseph of Annecy, is affiliated to Andhra University. The college was founded in July, 1958 in response to the local need for a Women’s College in the City.

St. Joseph’s College for Women, affirming its faith in God and love for all humanity, seeks to impart wholesome education to young women, enabling and empowering them to be self-reliant and responsible members of their family and society.

This institution of higher learning endeavours to make its own contribution in the light of its Christian world view towards a transformation of society, in which the principles of justice, freedom, respect for religious and moral values shall prevail.

The College seeks to achieve these aims while respecting all religious sentiments.

In carrying out its aims the College as a minority institution reserves for itself its inherent and constitutionally recognized right of management and administration.

In order to benefit from their years in St.Joseph’s College, the students must have the aptitude and ability for higher studies as well as the desire to apply themselves seriously to all obligations of college life.

  • Regular attendance and punctuality is compulsory.
  • Leave may be taken only with prior permission.
  • Medical certificate should be given if the student is sick, on rejoining.
  • Cell Phones are banned in college campus, during college hours.
  • Parents should monitor their children’s activities.
  • Students with misconduct will be debarred from the college.

Uniform

Students should wear the Uniform and ID Cards prescribed by the College. Uniform is compulsory on all working days on Saturdays the dressing should be appropriate and decent. During examinations uniform is compulsory including Saturday.

College Examinations

Attendance at College Examination is mandatory for all students. Only in case of serious illness and on production of a Medical Certificate will a student be exempted from any College Examinations.

Part III : One of the following combinations.

Coaching is conducted during college hours for interested students, for CPT & NEET, on additional payment.


Prospectus for Degree

ACADEMIC PROGRAMME

As an Autonomous College, St. Joseph’s College follows the semester pattern requiring Six Semesters of study for the Bachelor’s degree–each semester is of 18 weeks duration approximately. Courses are divided into Foundation, Core and Elective.

Foundation and Core Courses are mandatory for all students. Elective Courses are choice based which a student can choose from among several courses.

Courses in Personal Transformation, Value Development and Sports / NCC / NSS / Yoga / Music / Martial Arts are part of the  Undergraduate Programme.

EVALUATION SYSTEM

Evaluation is based on both Formative Assessment (Internal) throughout the semester and Summative Assessment (External) at the end of each Semester.

FEE STRUCTURE

  • The College fees must be paid twice in a year, first during admission and later at the beginning of every semester.
  • Hostel Fees to be paid separately.

ADMISSION PROCEDURE

  • Separate Application forms for Inter-Arts and Inter Science Degree Arts & Degree Science can be obtained from the college office on payment of Rs.200 /-
  • Application for each combination must be made on separate forms.
  • All correspondence should be addressed to the Principal, St.Joseph’s College for Women (Autonomous), Gnanapuram, Visakhapatnam – 530 004.
  • Application without the Metric/I.C.S.E./S.S.C/C.B.S.E. marks sheet will not be considered.
  • Applicants eligible for interview will receive Phone Call and this selection will be valid only up to the date mentioned. Those who do not receive any communication from the College should understand that they are not selected.

Selected candidates should pay the prescribed fee and produce the following Certificates in Original:

  1. Transfer and Conduct Certificate.
  2. S.S.C. /Matriculation/I.C.S.E. /C.B.S.E. Certificate.
  3. Statement of Marks and Pass Certificate.
  4. Migration Certificate of other than SSC Board
  5. One copy of latest passport-size photograph.
  6. Photo copy of Caste, Aadhar and Income Certificate.
  7. An undertaking that the students will not take up any fulltime Job / Course (9 AM to 4 PM) during their course of study in the College.
  8. A certificate of Physical Fitness from a certified Medical Practitioner.

If a student applies for T.C. she has to clear all her dues.

Candidates are informed that the Original Transfer and Study & Equivalent Certificates produced at the time of admission will not be returned under any circumstances. Students should take copies of these certificates before submitting the original certificates to the College.
