 General Library Rules and Regulations
All members of library should scan their thumb at the entrance using the tripod turnstile.
ID card is not transferable.
Mobiles not allowed in library.
Do not enter the reading or lending section with your baggage.
Keep them in property counter at the entrance.
Do not crowd around any counter, but stand in queue and wait for your turn.
Scan the library notice boards regularly (Both inside and outside the library premise).
In case of any difficulty library users can approach the Librarian
Only present students and staff of the College can use the Library.Ex-student or outsiders are allowed after permission from principal.
Maintain strict silence in the Reading Room and other areas.
Any misbehavior in the Library will lead to cancellation of membership.
Students should clear all library dues in time to obtain hall ticket before semester exam.
Students and Staff members must settle all library dues to obtain clearance certificate from the library on completion of studies or duty.
Student must examine each book before borrowing and immediately report and damaged or missing pages to the librarian.
A fine of rupee one will be charged per day for late submission for a book overdue.
Student should replace the lost or damaged book.

 Admission to Library
All Authorized/valid members are allowed to library with their Identity card

 Working Hours of the Library:
On all working days 8.30 am to 5.00 pm

 Library Rules @ Property Counter
Personal belongings should be kept in Property Counter.
No Valuable items viz., Money, Mobiles phones should be kept in your bag while keeping them in Property Counter.
Personal Books/ Checked out books are not allowed for consultation in the library.
Mobile should be switched off or kept on silent mode inside library/Mobile Use is restricted in the library.

 Guidelines for Borrowing Books:
All the students and staff are members of the library and also extend its membership to retired faculty, alumnae and outsiders with the permission of the principal.

 Circulation Service:
A student can borrow according to the following category and one or two renewals is allowed. Books borrowed should not be identical.

• Be present in person with your own ID card while borrowing/returning the library books.
• Borrowed books should be returned on or before the stipulated date mentioned on date-slip inside the book.
• After issuing/renewing a book see that the date of return is stamped on the date slip of book.
• Borrowed books should be returned on or before the stipulated date mentioned on date-slip inside the book.
• Check the condition of the book at the time of borrowing. If any mutilation found, report instantly to the concerned library staff. Otherwise the borrower will be responsible for the damage.
• Open Access is for your convenience. DO NOT misplace the books while selecting from the shelves. After consulting books DO NOT shuffle them but place them in PROPER PLACE.
• Return the borrowed books first at the circulation Counter. Don't go inside the Lending/Reading Section with borrowed books.

 Overdue Charges:
Books will be issued to the students for 14 days only. In the first page dateslip is pasted and stamped mentioning the due date and the fine will be charged @ Re.1, per book from the due date till the book is returned to library.

 Book Lost:
If the books are lost, then the borrower shall replace the new books of the same edition or latest edition or pay three time cost of the book after getting permission from the Principal/librarian.

 Care of library borrower cards:
Take special care to maintain the library borrower cards. Do not fold, alter entries made on the cards, Members are responsible for the entire set of library borrower card issued to them.

 No due Certificate:
Each student shall obtain No dues certificate from the library after returning all the books issued, surrendering the borrower’s cards and after paying outstanding dues, if any.

 Care of Library Books:
Students are required to handle the books/ Journal very carefully; marking with pencil , writing or highlighting , tearing the pages or mutilating the same in any other way will be viewed very seriously. In such case reader shall be held responsible unless these are brought to the notice of the library staff at the time of issue.

 Reference section:
This section has Encyclopedia, dictionaries, Text books reference books etc. which are only available for reference. User can make use of these resources.

 Journal Section:
In this section journal, general magazines and News letter are available. They are arranged alphabetically. The latest issues are displayed on display rack and other previous issues are kept in glass cupboard. Bound volumes of periodicals are arranged in rack alphabetically and are meant only for reference within the library.

 Internet Access Facility:
The Library has high speed Internet facility for 15 Systems with 100 Mbps dedicated network. All the Student and Staff Members can use the facility on Library working hours.
For using the Browsing service, the Member should enter the login time and logout in the digital library register.
The following e-resources which include e books, e journals and databases of n –LIST may be accessed by both the staff and the students of SJC (A) only with a Username and Password. There are more than (6,000 + e-journals and 31,35,000 + e-books If you do not have one, kindly approach the Library Office. The library is also having access to NDL (National Digital Library) will provide a single window search facilities to act as a one-stop shop for all digital resources. Information can be personalized based on the education level, choice of language, difficulty level, media of content and such other factors while other Digital libraries may not include all these choices. This is like a customised service provided in a 24x7 integrated environment to suit a user's requirement and will be like a one-stop shop for all.

 Current awareness service:
We provide this service to users on demand.

 Photocopying:
There is 1 Xerox machine.

 New Arrivals:
Latest arrivals of books are displayed for fifteen days at the entrance and users can browse through those books and also the book jackets are displayed.

 Question papers:
The centre provides both hard and soft copies of question papers for the benefit of the user community.

 Generation of barcoded ID cards:
Every student admitted in the campus and every faculty member of St.Joseph’s college for women (A), is provided with bar-coded identity card with unique pin number welcoming them into the SJC(A) family.

 OPAC:
It stands for Online Public Access Catalogue. It is a database of the library collection. It helps the user community to search for a book by title, author, publisher etc. The library staff helps in searching and locating of the book.
