 ABOUT DEPARTMENT

The Department of Zoology is one of the Oldest Departments of St. Joseph’s College for Women (A). The Zoology department being one of the pioneer departments in science started its journey way back in 1958 with “PAMELA ANDERSON” as Head of the department. This department was one of the star attractions of the college contributing to several generations of lady doctors in not only the Visakhapatnam but also the whole.

The Graduate Programme is designed to provide students with an overview on the Diversity of animals, their ecology, biology, physiology and evolutionary aspects.The Department is actively engaged in organizing science exhibitions, seminars and environmental awareness programmes. The department organizes seminars and group discussions for final year students every year where each student is to deliver lecture on their respective topics.

Departmental museum is very much enriched with a number of rare specimensand models which are perfectly exhibited. The department possesses a library with well displayed books. The students and staff of the departments of Zoology, Botany, Biotechnology&Biochemistry form an association named “BIO ASSOCIATION”and they publish a yearly magazine named as “BIOFLASH”reflecting all the activities conducted through out the year. The department offers Zoology for the Intermediate and the Degree courses.

The department of zoology strives to inculcate the highest values of life, science education, respect for nature, concern for ethical values &to make students with responsibilities towards society and achieve relevance of their studies for the betterment of mankind.

Our mission is to contribute significantly in the dissemination of new knowledge in the discipline of zoology, to establish global competence among students by inculcating optimistic thinking and positive spirit.
